Attention creative digital and technology entrepreneurs — an Intellectual Property (IP) North center will be opening Thursday in Covington.

The IP center in New Orleans will be expanding to include a separate facility in Covington. Like the New Orleans collaborative, the building will be a place for creative and digital companies and entrepreneurs to create a community and call home, benefiting from proximity of space, specialized services and even free media promotions.

Abhi Bhansali, account executive with Bond Public Relations representing Greater New Orleans, Inc. who is spearheading the initiative and said the IP North Building is intended to be a hub for innovation in creative technology, providing an opportunity for people to “bounce ideas off one another.”

It will be an idea village for entrepreneurial tech support, including non-profits. Bhansali said there are lucrative tax credits offered for digital media in Louisiana, some of the best in the country. The tech companies in the facility will be in close proximity to other spur companies, similar to the successful Pixar studio in California.

The opening, scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the IP North at Village Walk at the corner of Lee Lane and Gibson Streets in Covington, will present potential tenants with an overview of the value of the facility and its potential on regional businesses.

By leveraging the tax incentives, lowering costs and working in an environment that inspires creativity, the area has already become a viable location for digital/technology companies, including Turbosquid, the first tenant in the new facility. TurboSquid makes digital models and 3D models for digital imaging.

Forward thinking, innovative entrepreneurs, especially in the area of creative and digital media are sought to preserve this new ideal and to continue and capabilities throughout the region, not just in New Orleans.
