A Slidell man was charged with second-degree kidnapping and aggravated criminal damage Monday, after a domestic abuse incident turned into an unwanted trip to New Orleans, according to the Slidell Police Department.

The incident started Saturday when neighbors in the 200 block of Bela Sera Street called 911 to report a husband and his wife were chasing each other in separate cars.

When police got to the scene, the couple was gone, but witnesses told police that the husband, Darren Wallace, 297 Bela Sera St. had run into his wife’s Chevrolet Impala with his Chevrolet pickup truck and tried to block her escape. Witnesses said both Wallace and his wife, Pamela Wallace got out of their cars and got into a physical fight, in which Darren Wallace is believed to be the aggressor.

Wallace then forced his wife into his truck and took off before police arrived.

Pamela Wallace dialed 911 from her cell phone and told police that she was being taken to New Orleans and was being held against her will.

The SPD contacted the New Orleans Police Department for help, but by the time the Wallace truck got to New Orleans East, Pamela Wallace was fighting back and striking her husband with a wrench, trying to make him stop the truck. According to Pamela Wallace, her husband finally stopped the truck at his aunt’s house in New Orleans East. He then got a ride to a local hospital.

Pamela Wallace managed to flag down a motorist, who drove her to Slidell. When she got back to her house to talk to police, she was covered in blood, according to SPD spokesman Capt. Kevin Swann, and she was given medical treatment.

A Slidell detective drove to New Orleans and found Wallace’s truck at the intersection of Kingswood and Ridgefield streets. The truck was parked in the street and there appeared to be a lot of blood on the windows and inside the cab. The truck was towed back to Slidell, where police got a search warrant to search the vehicle. Swann said that Pamela Wallace’s car was also covered in blood, and that her personal belongings had been thrown into the street.

Detectives were able to get an arrest warrant for Wallace, and he was located and arrested for second-degree kidnapping and criminal damage on Monday. Swann said that Wallace made a full confession to detectives.

According to Slidell police Wallace has been arrested several times on charges that include aggravated battery, burglary of an inhabited building, battery on a law enforcement officer, robbery and theft.
