Let the fun and madness begin!
Time sure flies by when you are having fun. Just as we pack up all the Christmas decorations and try to maintain our New Year’s resolutions, along comes carnival season. The craziness and fun of Mardi Gras starts early this year. In fact, the first parade in St. Tammany Parish, and almost anywhere else in the metro area, is Sunday. The Krewe of Claude in Slidell is traditionally the first parade of the carnival season, and when they roll, you know it’s time to go into the garage and dust off the special Mardi Gras ladder you built for watching parades. This is a great time in our area, and few other communities in the country get to experience the fun and pageantry of Mardi Gras. Carnival season is a time to let loose and have some fun, dress up in a crazy costume, and revel in the camaraderie that is the carnival season.
Better planning next time, please
We are all for progress, safety and economic development. That being said, the current project on the U.S. Highway 11 bridge, may be for safety and progress, but it certainly is not doing anything for the local economic development.
Looking to the students’ futures
The St. Tammany Parish School Board has quite a reputation as innovators and keeping up with the latest educational tools. This week, the School Board kept that spirit of improving education for our children with two changes. First there will be a big change starting next year in the curriculum that is taught throughout the system. This new curriculum will not only benefit the student, but also the teachers and administration. The new curriculum will help Louisiana schools keep up with schools all over the country, and St.Tammany schools can compare their test scores to other schools across the country and see what needs to be done to improve education for St. Tammany students. There will also be stricter assessments of both teachers and administrators.
